Frank Bradshaw’s Lamp:for reference only

old-horse-books-saddlebred-five gaitedThis photo shows an old painted cast iron Saddlebred lamp from my personal collection. I do not know the age but here is the story of this treasure. From 1991-1992 my late husband Bruce Jones, a third generation Saddlebred trainer, was an assistant to Frank Bradshaw. Students of Saddlebred history, as well as of the different schools of Saddlebred training, will know Frank as the trainer of five-time World’s Grand Champion My My, as well as many other wonderful horses.  One time when Frank invited into his home, I spotted this lamp, I think it was on a desk in a hallway.

Years later, long after Frank passed away, his wife Margie’s estate went to auction in Frankfort, KY.  I watched in dismay as most of the bigger things went to Saddlebred people & antique collectors with far bigger budgets than mine. Finally, when the big spenders had already gone, this lamp came up & I was thrilled to win the bid.  And, no, sorry, it’s not for sale.  I thought devout collectors may enjoy seeing it and reading the story.

Happy treasure hunting!
