Champion Stymie Print by Menasco

This print of Handicap Champion Stymie is my favorite by Milton Menasco. He has captured perfectly the character of this great Thoroughbred racehorse. It was the first print I purchased for my home when I moved Kentucky years ago. Stymie had a long rivalry with Triple Crown winner Assault.

Menasco had a great way of depicting thoroughbreds. This beautiful print is wonderful for anyone who loves horse racing, makes a super horse gift, as well as a marvelous addition to anyone’s racing memorabilia collection. This print is a companion piece to Menasco’s print of Assault, which is also available & will be posted soon.

About the Artist: Born in 1890 in Los Angeles, CA, Milton Menasco began his art career in the early days of Hollywood, where he worked on 33 films - 29 times as art director and twice as set director. During World War II, Life Magazine commissioned him to draw air and sea battles to chronicle the wars in Europe and the Pacific. After the war, Mr. Menasco moved to Kentucky to devote himself entirely to his real love, horse portraiture. Here he painted the equine racing greats of the nation. He delighted in the change of the seasons, the beauty of the landscape, and the variety of foliage and animal life that he encountered, which was reflected by the richness and feeling in his paintings. Some Menasco racing prints are sold at Keeneland racetrack in Lexington, KY.

PUBLISHER: “Copyright Home Art Inc. N.Y.C.” appears on the lower left of print. This print was produced prior to 1991, (when I first saw one) but I am not sure of the date.

SIZE: 20 1/4″ wide x 16 1/2″ tall

CONDITION: Excellent. There is very slight yellowing at the edges of the paper, but this will be under the matting when you frame it.
