Historic Saddle: Al Brown, Dodge Stables & Dixiana

Saddlebred trainer Al Brown‘s straight head saddle, circa 1930’s-40’s.  Known as “the best colt man in the US”, Brown worked at renowned Dodge Stables & Dixiana Farm, & is the man who started My My racking.   It it not known for certain whether he rode her with this saddle, however he was using this saddle at the time. This beautiful Barnsby saddle, made in England, is still in riding condition.  As is typical of the era, the saddle has a wider tree, suitable for the heavier withered …

Frank Bradshaw’s Lamp:for reference only

This photo shows an old painted cast iron Saddlebred lamp from my personal collection. I do not know the age but here is the story of this treasure. Students of Saddlebred history, as well as of the different schools of Saddlebred training, will know Frank as the trainer of five-time World’s Grand Champion My My, as well as many other wonderful horses.  One time when Frank invited into his home, I spotted …

Lexington Junior League Horse Show 2005 poster

The Lexington Junior League Horse Show, held on the historic Red Mile racetrack, is the first of the American Saddlebred’s Triple Crown shows. The Junior League posters with realistic artwork often sell out during the show & have become very collectible.  I believe this dynamic gaited horse art depicts Terri Chancellor on The Phoenix, & the other rider may be Mary Gaylord (email me if you have more correct info!) This is a wonderful piece of memorabilia for any Saddlebred lover’s collection, or an exciting horse gift for gaited horse fans.
